Gone for the Week? Don’t Spring a Leak!
Headed out of town this summer? Before you set the out-of-office and pack your bags, make sure your home is vacation-ready too, especially when it comes to leak prevention. Water leaks can cause serious damage fast, and they’re the last thing you want to come home to.
Here are a few simple steps to help protect your home while you’re away:
Check for signs of trouble
Look for any warning signs before you leave; damp smells, stained ceilings, or peeling paint around sinks and appliances can signal a hidden leak.
Inspect exposed pipes and appliances
Give your water heater, washing machine, and under-sink plumbing a quick check. If anything looks off, don’t wait. Give us a call, we’re happy to check it out!
Turn off the main water valve
If you’re leaving for an extended period, consider shutting off your main water line to prevent any pressure build-up or accidental leaks.
Set your water heater to vacation mode
If your unit has one, turn on vacation mode before you leave. If not, you can turn off the power to the water heater when shutting off the main water valve to help save energy and protect the system.
Ask a friend or neighbor to check in
Having someone pop by while you’re gone gives you peace of mind, and ensures any issues are caught early.
