Use Sunlight to Your Advantage
The sun can add significant heat to the inside of a house or building. Depending on the season, you can reduce your expenses for heating or cooling by controlling the amount of sunlight entering your home.
- During winter, open shades and drapes during the daytime to let the sun's warmth in, and close them when the sun goes down.
- During summer, close blinds and drapes during daytime to keep excess heat out of the house and curb your cooling expenses.
- Install reflective window coatings to reflect heat away from your home.
